Nestled at the edge of 130 acres of oak woodlands, wetlands and prairies, the Hickory Knolls Discovery Center offers a unique blend of rustic nature and contemporary comforts. Learn about Ice Age land forms, Saving Snakes & more! Live animal displays, including the state-endangered Blanding’s turtles, offer guests up close interaction with reptiles native to Illinois. Nature programs for all ages provide guests with many educational and social opportunities to connect to our local environment. The LEED-certified building features beautiful views and an open floor plan with rental and programming space.
Explore scenic woodland, wetland and prairie habitats along 3+ miles of natural area trails with varying terrain to discover unique flora and fauna. Visit each season for different experiences. Hickory Knolls is home to many bird species. Watch red cardinals frolic in the trees against a snowy background. Smell and see the spring flowers bloom or the tall prairie flourish in the natural area. Fall is a busy time for critters while they gather nuts and prepare for winter.
